This weekend is extra special for Kannada movie lovers! After Maryade Prashne, one more funny family drama is ready to hit the OTT platform this weekend. This film is a sweet children’s adventure that’s already winning hearts across the globe. Little different from Maryade Prashne, which is a serious social drama that asks tough questions.
So which is that child focused film? is Let’s take a closer look.
Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa – A Child’s Chicken Chase
Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa (which roughly means Tomorrow’s Holiday, Chicken Fun) is a delightful Kannada film that tells the story of Sneha, an 11-year-old girl from a quiet village in Malenadu. Every Sunday, her family prepares her favourite dish – chicken curry. But one weekend, excitement turns into frustration when Gandhi Jayanti falls on a Sunday. Due to the national holiday, meat sales are banned for the day.
But Sneha is not one to give up easily. She goes on a quirky, laugh-filled journey through her village, determined to get her chicken curry no matter what. From asking neighbors to exploring hidden corners of the town, Sneha’s innocent stubbornness is both charming and relatable.
The film is directed, written, edited, and produced by Abhilash Shetty, who previously gave us Koli Taal. It stars Samrudhi Kundapura as Sneha, alongside Sanidhya Acharya, Radha Ramachandra, and Prabhakar Kunder. The dialogues are in the Kundapura Kannada dialect, giving the movie a local flavor that feels both authentic and refreshing.
Despite its simplicity, critics love it:
⭐ 3.5/5 by The Times of India — “A deliciously personal adventure that leaves you smiling and hungry”
⭐ The Hindu calls it “a charming film that balances gentle humour with socio-political commentary”
en.wikipedia.org⭐ Deccan Herald praised its script, saying Sneha’s journey will “make you crave chicken curry by the end”
This small but powerful indie film, just over an hour and a half – is a lovely celebration of childhood cravings, village life, and honest storytelling. If you’ve got kids at home or just want something wholesome and light-hearted, this one’s a safe bet!

Why These OTT Releases Matter
In Kannada cinema, children’s films are still rare, so Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa feels like a breath of fresh air. Its local dialect, village setting, and innocent storyline make it truly stand out. It’s also proof that a simple story, told with honesty, can travel far.
The film has already made its mark on the international stage:
Premiered at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival in Indonesia (Dec 2024)
Released in Canada (Sept 2024)
Theatrical release in India (May 2025)
Soon to screen at the 25th New York Indian Film Festival (June 22, 2025)
For fans of indie cinema, Abhilash Shetty’s journey is inspiring. A former software engineer at Capgemini, he quit his job to follow his passion for filmmaking. His growth from Koli Taal to Naale Rajaa Koli Majaa shows his commitment to storytelling that’s rooted in real people and real emotions.
